Syariah laws, state by state
Undang-undang Syariah mengikut negeri
Islamic law is state law in Malaysia: each state, and the Federal Territories, has its own enactments on the administration of Islamic law, Islamic family law, Syariah offences, court procedure, evidence, wills, wakaf and zakat. This table shows which law each state has, the year, and the latest amendment we found in the official source.
Each cell shows the year of the law; open it for the full title, contents and the official copy. Read across a row to compare states. A link opens our copy of the official text (with its version history); ↗ opens the official state page where no copy could be captured. “—” means we have not found that law in an official source yet — it may still exist; check with the state religious council or Syariah court.

Notes
- The Federal Territories (Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Labuan) are governed by federal Acts of Parliament: Acts 505, 303, 559, 560, 561 and 585.
- Several state enactments are mirrored as the original gazetted text; later amending enactments are listed separately where an official copy was found. A blank cell means no official copy was located, not that no law exists.
- Where a state has both an older and a newer enactment on the same subject (for example the Kedah Syariah Courts enactments of 2008 and 2024), the newer one is shown and the older one is kept in the law library; check which is in force with the state Syariah court.
- Kelantan: the JKSM library catalogues the council enactment as 2004, while the Kelantan council cites Enakmen No. 4 of 1994 — check the first page of the copy.
- Johor: wakaf and zakat are governed by older rules (Kaedah Wakaf 1983, Peraturan Zakat dan Fitrah 1962) for which no official online copy was found.
- Selangor: zakat and the Syariah courts are dealt with under the Administration of the Religion of Islam (State of Selangor) Enactment 2003 rather than separate enactments.
- Sarawak's Syariah laws are Ordinances (2001); Sabah and Sarawak texts are the English reference copies published by the State Attorney-General's Chambers.
